Wednesday nights are the home of Revolution, a night of study and worship with students in 6th-12th grades at First Baptist Church Quincy. It's my privilege to lead Revolution week in and week out. Here's a peak into where we were last night...
Cadence: a pattern of sound created from multiple sources of rhythm.
When you think cadence, think drum line. Think about how the bass drum works with the snare drum and they work with the cymbals and tom drums to create a recognizable beat. All of the individual parts work together to create something great.
Romans 12:1 says that we are present out "whole bodies" to God. This is our worship. To find cadence in worship, we must use not just our mouths, but our eyes, minds, feet, ears, hearts...in essence our whole body. When one part of our body is out of rhythm it throws the whole beat of our worship off. It's like a clanging cymbal that is out of place.
Individually, we are to worship God with our whole bodies, but then we are to join with others in worshiping our God. This is the purpose of the wise men of the Christmas story. Multiple people walking together towards worshiping Jesus. They had their own bodies in a cadence of worship, but they went the next step and joined the cadence of others in worship. This is the great job of the church. To find the cadence of worship with others.
It was a great night at Revolution. There was much feedback from the students about how they can use their eyes and feet to worship. Does what you look at worship God? Does how you view others worship God? Do you look for where God is working? Are your feet taking you to people who need Jesus? Are you feet leading you to places where you can bless someone else?
Worship is not theoretical. It's very, very practical. It's a whole body experience. How will you use your "whole body" to worship God today.
