Last night we had our first ever Ski Trip Awards ceremony. It was a blast. Parents came, food was served, pictures were shown, and trophies were given out. As we wrapped up the night and Sara Beth and I were left cleaning the kitchen and sweeping brownies off the floor, I couldn't help but think that when parents are involved and invest into our student ministry it only gets better.
There are definitely times and places where not having a parent around is a benefit. Let's face it. A student won't open up when a mom or dad is around, and especially in a small town where everyone knows everyone's business. But the reality is that it's mom and dad's biblical responsibility to raise up their student under the teachings and leadership of Jesus Christ. I'm simply a partner in that process. And while I haven't done a great job of partnering in the past, I'm intentionally seeking to improve in that department.
But moms and dads, you can help. Don't see Wednesday nights as a break, a "better alternative" or a baby-sitting service. We work hard to produce a quality experience for your student to intersect with Christ. While we have fun and play games, my number one priority is to see your students and your student's friends come to understand God's love, His Gospel, and respond with their entire lives. The hour and half they spend with us on Wednesday is more important than their homework, a ball game, a movie, or a date.
And on a final note...38! That's right, we were pushing the 40 mark last night in students. That means nearly 40 teenage people heard a clear presentation of the Gospel last night, and how it radically changes their lives. That's why numbers are important!!! Let's keep it rollin!
