3 Things to Do This Weekend...
1. Tell those you love how much they mean to you.
This week, I've been with a wife who lost her husband. She's thirty-two; he was thirty-seven. I've been with a daughter who lost her daddy. She's sixteen; she was a daddy's girl. Totally unexpected, totally unexplainable. I know God is in complete control, but death, especially unexpected death of the young, is tough, real tough. At twenty-eight, the passing of this friend has hit close to home for me and alot of people I know. Life if is vapor, a blade of grass, here today and gone tomorrow. Make sure you're always expressing your love to those who you are close to.
2. Take time to prepare for your worship service.
Don't look at this weekend's worship service as another feeding time. Sure I hope the Holy Spirit speaks to you and you grow this week, but instead, why don't you go to church already full on what God is doing and speaking to you? Then your worship can be an outpouring of what God has already done in your life rather than an expectation of what is to come. What if we spent more time preparing our hearts for worship than preparing what we wear?
3. Spend time doing "nothing" with your wife/kids.
If you're a married guy, ask the wife to go for a walk, or catch a movie on TV. If you're a dad, throw the football with the son or take your daughter out for ice cream. Some of my favorite times with Sara Beth is spent on the couch watching an old 90's movie on Starz.
Enjoy your weekend. Pull for you college team. Do nothing. Tell people you love them. Get ready for Sunday. It will be a great weekend if you do.
