great weekend...

Let me give you six reasons why I had a great weekend:

1. Friday night the Simmons family came over for dinner. Scott is my one of my best friends, and he is an incredible example for me. His wife Jen is phenomenal too and she made some scrumptous cookies for dessert. Their one year old daughter Karsyn kept us laughing all night. She's the first one year old that I've ever seen that can do sign language and tell you that she is one (if you ask her how old she is she holds up her pointer finger). Karsyn is Scott's puppy as he is always teaching her new tricks.

2. Saturday I spend the day on the shore of St. George Island. It was 85 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. It was the perfect day, and I had my beautiful wife right next to me. It was a great getaway for us, and I got some much needed reading done. I could so move to the beach.

3. Saturday night I enjoyed an IBC root beer (from the bottle--always the best) with my brother David as we enjoyed watching Bama whoop some Georgia Bulldog tail. Going into the game, I thought Bama might keep it close but I really thought we were another year or two away from winning this big of a game. Boy was I wrong. 31-0 at halftime!!! I'm not on the national championship bandwagon yet because we still have some big games left (Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU, & Auburn).

4. Sunday morning's service rocked. There was an energy in the room during worship that was fantastic. Gus brought it when preaching the parable of the fig tree. I was so convicted. God is patient with us, but at what point does his patience run out? We must produce spiritual fruit in our life! Can you imagine God saying to you that "You are just wasting space! Time to cut you down!?!?!?!? May we never be people that just waste space.

5. Sunday night we had Quincy on a String. A night full of worship (in all styles you could imagine) and laughs. My only question is why can't we be like this every time we meet for church? Smiling, laughing, enjoying, participating...it's what a church service should be every time.

6. Sunday night after Quincy on a String we had homemade ice cream. Nothing better than capping off the weekend with some homemade ice cream from all those wonderful cooks at FBCQ. Fantastic. Our staff is considering asking the church to have homemade ice cream every other week. (OK so maybe it's just me asking for this, but it's still a good suggestion).

By the way, Dean Inserra (www.deaninserra.com) has the best college football poll in America right now.
