A fundamental belief of evangelical Christianity is the sovereignty of God. God is in complete control of His creation. He is always acting in ways to fulfil His purpose and direction in this world. Nothing escapes His knowledge or direction. And His control is not just extended to those who accept His purpose, but to every person, place, thing, or event in the timeline of history whether for good or bad. He uses anyone and everything for His glory and to accomplish His plan.
With this in mind, I prepare to tune into the Presidential debate. I plan to listen for key issues, core beliefs, and a vision for America that I can believe in and support. I plan to exercise my right to vote for the leadership of our country on November 4. And when the winner is announced on November 5, I plan to be on my knees praying that God would guide and lead our new President, whoever he may be.
Proverbs 21:1 says, "The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases." Whether a Democrat or Republican takes the reigns of our White House come November 5, there is a hand that guides his heart. And whether we or that President recognizes it or not, that Hand is the sovereign rule of God carrying forward His purpose and plan.
Listen carefully. Vote wisely. Pray earnestly. Share Christ urgently. And know, God is control.
PS--"God is in Control" by Twila Paris is the one song that sticks in the mind of every youth choir member of the early 90's. Thank you Associational Youth Choir Musicals for this part of my memory that I cannot erase.
