tough words from Jesus...

“What sorrow awaits you who are rich,
for you have your only happiness now.

What sorrow awaits you who are fat and prosperous now,
for a time of awful hunger awaits you.

What sorrow awaits you who laugh now,
for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow.

What sorrow awaits you who are praised by the crowds,
for their ancestors also praised false prophets."

Jesus, Luke 6:24-26.

These are the characteristics of those who do not know and love Jesus. They chase money. They chase comfort. They chase happiness at all cost. They chase fame. Sounds like many who sit in our churches week in and week out.

“God blesses you who are poor,
for the Kingdom of God is yours.

God blesses you who are hungry now,
for you will be satisfied.

God blesses you who weep now,
for in due time you will laugh."

Jesus, Luke 6:20-21.

These are the characteristics of those who do know and love Jesus. Money is a tool to use and give rather than hoard. Comfort is reserved for eternity after a life of being uncomfortable now. Making less of yourself now will lead to eternal joy. Sounds like the people we avoid bringing to our churches.
