Friday.........We spent a cold Friday night on the corner of the church passing out hot chocolate and candy canes to those who attended the 2008 Quincy Christmas Parade. I didn't expect such a large crowd, but person after person came by and received a cup of hot chocolate and the love of Christ-followers. Many people were quite shocked by the gesture, but it gave us a great opportunity to connect with people in a non-threatening environment and just share joy, love, and Christ with them. We met several people from our community, and many of them returned on Sunday night for our Christmas festivities.
Saturday.......After spending the day working out the drum parts to our church Christmas musical, Sara Beth and I headed over to my folks house for their annual Christmas party. The party was fun, but the real excitement began afterwards when Sara Beth cranked up the Karaoke with my parents, her parents, and some other family was in town. Then came the disco dance moves from my dad and cousin Jonathan. It's fun seeing parents let loose and have a good time.
Sunday.....Huge day yesterday. Unfortunately we said by to our piano player and his wife, Daniel & Amy Driskell. These guys have been huge for me and our student ministry, and they will definitely be missed. We know God is going to use them for the Kingdom in Mobile, AL. Aside from that sadness, we had our 2008 Christmas service last night. A birthday party, a night at Bethlehem, and worshipping the Child of Wonder capped off a great weekend. The community was present. Jesus was present. And I truly believe people walked away yesterday with a renewed focus on the Christ of Christmas.
